On 19/7, Quang Tri Provincial Police announced the temporary detention of Mai Van Quang, Ha Van Nghia (both residing in Thanh Hoa), and Tran Thi Ngoc Hien for violations of food safety regulations, under Article 317 of the Penal Code.

In connection with the case, Hoang Thi Mong Truyen, Truong Van Quoc, and Tran Ngoc Bac (all residing in Quang Tri) were prosecuted and released on bail.

Previously, the Economic Police Department uncovered a ring specializing in purchasing pigs infected with african swine fever from northern provinces, transporting them to Quang Tri for slaughter, and then selling them on the market.

Authorities caught the group red-handed as they transferred diseased pigs from a specialized truck with Hung Yen license plates to smaller trucks in the area of the old Dong Ha City public cemetery and Quan Ngang Industrial Park.

Authorities allege that from February to May 2026, the defendants sold over 250 tons of pigs infected with african swine fever. These pigs were purchased at low prices due to their illness, then brought to Quang Tri for slaughter and sale to generate illegal profits.

The case is currently under expanded investigation.
