Disguised as a shipper, man steals safe containing over 30 gold rings

Mai Van Chi, posing as a delivery driver, allegedly broke into a family home in Van Loc commune and stole a safe filled with gold rings and cash.

Mai Van Chi, 31, was detained by the Criminal Police Department of Thanh Hoa Provincial Police on 18/8 for investigation into property theft.

The incident occurred 10 days prior when a family in Da Loc village, Van Loc commune, discovered their house ransacked and a safe missing. The stolen safe contained 31 gold rings, each weighing 0.5 chi, and 2.5 million VND in cash. The total value of the stolen assets was estimated at 200 million VND.

Authorities identified Chi as the perpetrator. During questioning, the suspect confessed that on the afternoon of 8/8, he rode a motorbike carrying a plastic container and a blue sack, pretending to be a delivery person in the commune.

Chi saw an open, unattended house in Da Loc village and decided to steal property. He entered the house, searched it, and carried away the safe.

That same evening, Chi broke open the safe, sold the gold, and used the money to cover expenses and debts.

Chi had a prior conviction for property theft in 2015.
