On 28/7, the People's Court of Area 1 - Hue sentenced Nguyen Duy Nhat for property theft.

Nhat, a doctor in the Stroke Department at Hue Central Hospital, faced severe financial difficulties. According to the indictment, he incurred significant losses from cryptocurrency investments, leading to substantial debt and an inability to repay numerous creditors.
Driven by the need to settle debts, continue his cryptocurrency ventures, and support personal expenses, Nhat embarked on a series of thefts. During June-July 2025, he repeatedly broke into gold shops in Hue to steal valuable assets.
Court records detail the sequence of events: On 13/6/2025, Nhat first targeted the Kim Lien Chinh gold shop at Da Le market, Thanh Thuy ward. He stole 12 western gold rings (610 gold) and various silver jewelry, selling them for 44 million dong.
His criminal activities continued on 10/7/2025, when he entered the Kim Chau Lam gold shop at Than Phu market, Huong Thuy ward. From there, he took 7 western gold necklaces and other silver jewelry, which he later sold for 65 million dong.
The largest theft occurred on 21/7/2025. Nhat broke into the Thanh 41 gold shop, kiosk number 10 at Cong market, Vy Da ward. He stole approximately 700 pieces of gold and white gold jewelry of various purities (12K, 14K, 18K, 24K), with the total value of these items exceeding 4,9 billion dong.
Following these crimes, Nhat transported 19 types of gold jewelry to a shop at Dong Ha market, Quang Tri province. He managed to sell them for 286 million dong before authorities discovered his actions and arrested him, recovering the evidence.
Prosecuting authorities confirmed that the total value of assets Nhat stole across the three incidents was over 5 billion dong.
