On 27/1, Bac, 47, from Yen Ninh commune, Thanh Hoa province, was charged by the Hanoi City Police Investigation Agency with torturing or mistreating others.
According to the victim's family, the 82-year-old woman, residing in alley 190 Lo Duc, Hai Ba Trung ward, suffered a stroke and was in poor health. A domestic helper was hired in 11/2025 to care for her at home. The family agreed to pay Bac a salary of 11 million VND per month, along with benefits such as a 13th-month salary and a 10-day Tet Nguyen Dan holiday.
Additionally, the family provided Bac with an extra 600,000 VND per month for breakfast. Bac received her monthly salary in cash as she did not have a bank account.

On 10/1, the elderly woman's child noticed her mother's health had deteriorated, with several swollen lumps on her forehead and bruised eyes. When questioned, Bac claimed the elderly woman had fallen. Skeptical of the domestic helper's explanation, the family reviewed the security camera footage, which revealed Bac repeatedly striking the elderly woman while assisting with dressing, feeding, and changing diapers.
According to the camera footage, while the elderly woman was in her wheelchair, Bac forcefully pulled her, verbally abused her, then twisted her neck, and struck her face and head.
Upon receiving the report from the victim's family, Hanoi Police assigned officers to investigate the incident, interviewed relevant individuals, and arranged for the elderly woman to undergo a medical examination for injuries.
