Around 22:20 on 12/6, Working Group 14 of Quang Xuong Traffic Police Station, Thanh Hoa Provincial Police Traffic Police Department, was on patrol duty on Nguyen Thiep street, Hac Thanh ward.
Police spotted a suspicious black five-seater car and signaled it to stop for a breath alcohol test.
According to police, instead of complying, driver Le Duy Lam (23, residing in Thieu Trung commune) drove his car directly into Major Le Huu Thuan, an officer conducting the vehicle inspection. Lam then accelerated and fled, dragging Major Nguyen Xuan Son, the head of the working group, for about 300 m before stopping.
The incident caused Major Son to suffer a fractured right forearm, and he is currently receiving treatment at Thanh Hoa Provincial Police Hospital.
Police stated that despite being in a dangerous situation, Major Son attempted to manage the situation, demanding the driver stop to ensure the safety of the task force and other road users; however, Lam refused to comply.
After the car stopped, authorities tested Lam's breath alcohol content, which registered 0,025 mg/L of breath.
