Pham Thi Hoai, 49, was charged after police found hundreds of counterfeit branded prescription glasses at her store.

On 13/6, Dong Nai Police investigated Hoai for infringing industrial property rights.

The investigation revealed that during a special campaign against intellectual property rights violations, Long Thanh Ward Police inspected the Saigon Optical Store's Long Thanh branch in Van Hai neighborhood, which Hoai owned.

There, police discovered hundreds of eyeglasses bearing protected brands in Vietnam, including Ray-Ban, Gucci, Dior, Chanel, Rolex, and Hermes, all showing signs of being counterfeit. The total value of the seized goods was nearly 300 million VND.

During questioning by investigators, Hoai admitted to importing the glasses from various sources to sell for profit. She knew the items were not genuine and lacked clear origin.

She stated that her goal in importing the goods was to offer a wider variety of designs, attract more customers, and boost profits. All glasses suspected of infringing on trademarks have been seized by authorities for ongoing investigation.

This marks the first case in Dong Nai where communal-level police identified and recommended criminal prosecution for industrial property rights infringement.
