Embezzling charity funds for a wedding

Tameem Choudhury, a finance and accounting employee at a breast cancer charity, embezzled 92,000 GBP (3,2 billion VND) to fund his wedding and honeymoon.

Tameem Choudhury, 29, was sentenced to 2 years and 6 months in prison by the UK Royal Court on 1/9, after pleading guilty to fraud and money laundering.

In August 2023, Tameem, while working as an accountant for the Breast Cancer Now charity, used his professional capacity to embezzle 91,966 GBP from its trust fund. Weeks after receiving the money, he used it to pay for his wedding, honeymoon, and luxury items, including a 14,000 GBP ring (500 million VND).

Tameem was arrested last June after Breast Cancer Now reported him to the police. The bank quickly froze his account due to suspicious activity, at which point the account held just over 40,000 GBP.

Messages on Choudhury's phone, discovered during the investigation, showed him describing himself as "almost penniless" just before committing the crime.

The entire embezzled amount has since been recovered, and the charity has not suffered any financial loss.

Launched in 2015, Breast Cancer Now is patronized by the British royal family. The organization funds breast cancer research and provides medical aid to patients. In the 2025 financial year, it received nearly 60 million GBP in donations.
