Employee interferes with company software, appropriating nearly 18 billion dong

Huynh Van Lam, 29, a debt recovery manager, along with an accountant, interfered with the company's software system, creating fraudulent accounting entries and appropriating nearly 18 billion dong.

On 27/12, Huynh Van Lam, 29, and Nguyen Thi Thu Ha, 30, were temporarily detained by the Ho Chi Minh City Police's Economic Police Department on charges of asset embezzlement. The two are accused of misappropriating nearly 18 billion dong from CityZoo Co., Ltd. by manipulating the company's accounting software.

The alleged wrongdoing occurred at CityZoo Co., Ltd., headquartered in An Khanh ward (formerly Thu Duc City), which is directed by a French national. Initial investigation results indicate the alleged crimes took place from 6/2022 to 28/2. During this period, Lam served as the debt recovery manager, and Ha was an accountant.

Investigators allege Lam exploited vulnerabilities in the company's debt payment management and his authority to update and manipulate the accounting software system, colluding with Ha. After receiving debt payments from sales personnel, the two individuals reportedly diverted these funds for personal use instead of depositing them into the company's account.

To conceal their actions over an extended period, Lam allegedly created fraudulent accounting entries in the software, thereby falsifying data and evading company detection. The investigative agency has determined that the two suspects embezzled a total of nearly 18 billion dong.

The Economic Police Department is currently expanding the investigation and implementing measures to recover the misappropriated assets.
