On 27/12, Vo Thanh Tung and 19 other individuals were temporarily detained by the Criminal Police Department (C02), Ministry of Public Security. They face investigation for illegal storage and trade of military weapons, organizing gambling, and gambling.
The arrests followed a major crackdown on 19/12, where over 150 police officers, divided into multiple teams, simultaneously raided various locations. Authorities searched the scenes and residences of those involved, seizing one handgun, over 10,000 rounds of various military ammunition, over 200 million VND in cash, and one oto.

Among the 20 individuals arrested, four suspects are being investigated for organizing gambling, 12 individuals for gambling, three individuals for illegal storage and trade of military weapons, and one person for both charges.

C02 scouts had previously identified Tung's criminal group, originally from Dak Lak, as showing signs of transnational organized crime. The suspects frequently crossed the Vietnam-Cambodia border. Recently, Tung recruited many subordinates with criminal records. This group sought to acquire military weapons to resolve social conflicts and demonstrate power. Police also discovered the gang organized "xoc dia" gambling in remote border areas between provinces to evade detection by authorities, posing a risk of serious crimes.

The 19/12 operation involved a coordinated effort by the Criminal Police Department, the Mobile Police Command, and police of Dong Nai, Phu Yen, and Da Nang provinces, mobilizing hundreds of officers for a simultaneous crackdown.
This action by C02 and police from several provinces was part of an intensive campaign to combat crime, ensuring security for Party Congresses at all levels and the Tet Nguyen Dan Binh Ngo 2026 Lunar New Year.
The Criminal Police Department is continuing to expand the investigation into the case.
