Linh Xuan Ward Police in Ho Chi Minh City opened a file on 16/9 to fine a 38-year-old woman for reporting false information to authorities, an offense under Decree 282/2025.

The woman had reported to the police yesterday that two young men on a motorbike approached her, forcing her to stop. She claimed one of them dismounted, identified himself as a creditor, pushed her down, and took her scooter. As she attempted to hold onto it, he allegedly discovered 42 million VND in her jacket pocket, snatched it, and fled.

However, police investigations, including reviewing camera footage, tracing her travel route, and interviewing witnesses, found no evidence supporting her robbery claim.

Confronted with the evidence, the woman admitted to fabricating the entire incident. She confessed to pawning her motorbike for 11 million VND and using an additional 42 million VND her husband had entrusted to her, all to settle a debt with a finance company. Fearing her husband would discover she had pawned the scooter and misused his money, she invented the robbery story to conceal her actions.
