Lauren Evans was sentenced to 12 months in prison on 2/3 after being convicted of perverting the course of justice at Southwark Crown Court in 12/2025. The judge stated that Lauren's lie was related to being late for work.
According to official records, in 3/2023, Lauren reported being sexually assaulted during a vehicle stop by a plainclothes officer driving an unmarked police car. She identified her alleged attacker as "Watson".
Alex Watson, an officer with 30 years of service at the Metropolitan Police Service, was arrested the following day in front of his wife and children, despite never having met Lauren. He was targeted because he happened to be driving an unmarked police car in the area where Lauren claimed the assault occurred.
Alex was handcuffed and detained for 23 hours before detectives discovered that "Police Officer Lauren Evans had never been stopped, searched, or sexually assaulted". In a subsequent statement, Alex described being treated like a violent criminal due to this fabricated accusation.
At the time, Lauren was also serving with the Metropolitan Police Service. An investigation report revealed that about 30 detectives dedicated a total of 1,500 hours to the case.

A misconduct hearing held in 1/2026 concluded that Lauren was "entirely at fault for her actions" and she was immediately dismissed. She was also placed on a list barring her from working in the police force.
Chief Inspector Mark Cutler, from the Metropolitan Police Service's anti-abuse and corruption command unit, stated: "Officers must act with integrity at all times, and lying about such a serious allegation is completely unacceptable. This action undermines the force's efforts to support victims of sexual offenses, and we will not tolerate it".
