Ca Mau provincial police announced that Duong Thanh Trung, 65, was prosecuted on 13/5 to investigate violations of regulations on compensation, support, and resettlement when the state recovers land. The Ca Mau provincial people's procuracy approved the prosecution decision.

According to the investigating agency, Trung is being investigated for violations committed during his time as chairman of the former Bac Lieu provincial people's committee, though the specifics have not yet been disclosed.

Previously, the Central Inspection Committee, at its 8th session, considered disciplinary action against violating party members within the Ca Mau provincial party committee (which included Bac Lieu and Ca Mau before 7/2025). The committee concluded that Trung had politically, ethically, and lifestyle-wise degenerated; violated party regulations and state laws; and breached rules on what party members are prohibited from doing and their responsibility to set an example.

Trung's violations "caused very serious consequences, severely damaging the prestige of the party organization, local authorities, and his workplace, to the extent that disciplinary action must be taken", the announcement stated.

Trung previously served as head of the provincial party committee's organization commission and secretary of Bac Lieu city party committee. He became deputy secretary of the provincial party committee in late 10/2015. He served as chairman of Bac Lieu provincial people's committee from 12/2015 and was dismissed from this position in 11/2020.
