On 21/8, police found Emiliane Tamara Nunes Carvalho, 24, in a rented house in the Jardim America III area of Aguas Lindas de Goias, Goias state, Brazil. She was gagged, her hands and feet were bound, and she was chained to a bed. Ailton Rodrigues de Souza, her ex-husband, was apprehended after trying to flee the residence. Police charged him with kidnapping and unlawful detention.

Emiliane's family reported her missing on 17/8 after she did not return home from a clinic visit in Aguas Lindas de Goias. They initiated a search and alerted authorities.

At the scene, authorities recovered a 9 mm firearm, along with drugs and other items believed to have been used to subdue the victim. The presence of various items and the quantity of belongings at the location suggested the crime was premeditated.

Emiliane and Ailton were together for 6 years before separating in 12/2025. The 24-year-old nurse stated her ex-husband refused to accept the end of their marriage. Police reported Ailton sedated Emiliane before transporting her to the rented house. The victim recounted her ex-husband began planning the abduction in March. During captivity, she loosened some restraints, but he then secured her with iron chains. He repeatedly beat and sexually assaulted her, and forced acid-soaked cloths into her mouth, causing burns.

In a social media video, Emiliane appeared with swollen, bruised eyes, tearfully expressing her continued fear despite the suspect's arrest, concerned about potential further threats. On 22/8, the court ordered Ailton's provisional detention to facilitate the investigation and for victim protection, citing evidence of repeated threats, physical coercion, and restriction of Emiliane's freedom.

Goias police are continuing their investigation to fully understand the kidnapping's sequence of events, the time spent preparing the detention location, and the alleged actions Emiliane reported.
