Driver not at fault in bus crash that killed 4

Police will not prosecute the case of a passenger bus carrying 15 divers that plunged into Bau Trang Lake's edge in April, as investigations determined the vehicle suffered brake failure, not driver error.

The Lam Dong Provincial Police Investigation Agency recently sent this notification to the driver and victims' families.

According to the police, the passenger bus driven by Tran Thanh Son on Hoa Thang road, which resulted in 4 deaths and 11 injuries on 6/4, was caused by "brake failure, not driver error."

Additionally, the vehicle's brake system was found to have damage prior to the accident. "However, the installation or modification of non-standard equipment was not the main cause affecting braking performance, so the accident does not constitute a criminal offense," the notification stated.

According to investigators, since the civil aspect of the incident has not been fully resolved by the parties through voluntary agreement, related parties have the right to file a lawsuit at People's Court Area 13 - Lam Dong for resolution.

Previously, at around 13:30 on 6/4, driver Tran Thanh Son, 38, was operating a Hong Ha passenger bus carrying 15 divers from La Gi port to Phan Ri Cua. As the bus passed through Hoa Thang commune, approaching the intersection to turn towards Phan Ri on road 716B, it suddenly went straight, plunging towards the edge of Bau Trang Lake.

Hearing a loud crash and cries for help, nearby residents rushed to help, overturning the bus to rescue those trapped.

The accident resulted in 4 immediate deaths and 11 injuries.
