On 17/7, Vinh Long Provincial Police arrested Mai, 52 years old, residing in Thanh Thoi commune. She faces investigation for abusing democratic freedoms to infringe upon the interests of the State, and the legitimate rights and interests of organizations and individuals, under Article 331 of the Penal Code.

Previously, in 2022, the Tra Vinh Provincial People's Court sentenced Mai to 5 years in prison for embezzlement.

Initial investigations reveal that in early 2025, after completing her prison sentence, Mai disagreed with the verdict. She then used social media to post numerous articles and videos. Investigators believe these contents were accusatory, distorted, and defamed the honor and reputation of provincial leaders and various organizations and individuals.

Authorities stated Mai had been informed of her right to lodge complaints and denunciations as regulated. Despite this, she continued to post content identified as false, affecting local security and order.
