Group of trainees carrying weapons escape drug rehabilitation center

Angered by disciplinary action, Nguyen Hoai Thanh conspired with fellow rehabilitation patients to prepare weapons and resist duty officers to escape the facility.

On 8/8, Thanh, 18, Soc Hong Dy, Chau Anh Tuan, Do Trang Nguyen, and Huynh Phu Cuong (aged 16-17) were arrested by the An Giang Provincial Police for disturbing public order.

According to an initial investigation, Thanh was undergoing drug rehabilitation at sector B of Drug Rehabilitation Center No. 1, managed by the An Giang Provincial Police.

On 3/5, after being disciplined for violating internal regulations, Thanh became resentful. He discussed a plan with Soc Hong Dy, then recruited Nguyen, Tuan, Cuong, and several other trainees to prepare improvised weapons for an escape.

Taking advantage of the moment when the gate to sector B was opened for water distribution, the group, armed with weapons, began shouting and resisting the duty officers. They then ran out through the main gate to escape.

The rehabilitation center subsequently deployed blocking forces and persuaded the trainees to return to the facility.

During questioning by authorities, Thanh's group admitted their actions.
