On 10/6, Can Tho City Police issued an administrative penalty decision against S.I.S Can Tho International General Hospital, located on Nguyen Van Cu street, An Binh ward, for violating environmental protection regulations.
According to inspection results from 17/4, authorities determined the hospital discharged untreated wastewater from its laundry and waste collection areas into the urban drainage system.
Wastewater sample analysis revealed Coliforms levels exceeded standards by 310 times. Other indicators also surpassed permissible limits, including: chemical oxygen demand (COD) by 8,38 times, biochemical oxygen demand (BOD5) by 6,94 times, ammonia by 5,6 times, and suspended solids by 3,05 times.
For wastewater samples taken from the hospital's centralized treatment system, authorities noted Coliforms levels exceeded by more than 26 times; COD and BOD5 exceeded by 1,48 times and 1,17 times respectively.

Beyond the pollution parameters exceeding standards, police also determined the hospital installed equipment and pipelines to discharge untreated waste directly into the environment from its laundry and waste collection areas.
In addition to the 2 billion VND fine, authorities also suspended operations of the pollution-generating waste sources and revoked S.I.S Can Tho International General Hospital's environmental license for 4,5 months.
The hospital must also implement environmental pollution remediation measures as required within 30 days.
