Lexus driver charged after hitting five vehicles waiting at red light in Hanoi

Vu Quang Chien has been charged with failing to observe and control his speed while driving a Lexus, causing a collision with multiple cars and motorbikes stopped at a red light.

On 4/4, Yen Hoa Ward Police announced that Chien, 39, a Hanoi resident, had been charged with violating road traffic regulations. The charges stem from an accident at the Trung Kinh - Mac Thai To intersection.

Initial findings indicated that neither the Lexus driver nor the drivers of the other cars and motorbikes involved in the accident had violated blood alcohol content limits or consumed stimulants. The cause of the accident was the driver's failure to observe and control his speed.

Previously, at around 23:30 on 25/3, a Lexus traveling on Trung Kinh Street approached the intersection with Mac Thai To Street, near Chelsea Park building. It collided with the rear of a black car waiting at a red light, pushing it approximately 10 meters. After the initial impact, the Lexus sped through the intersection and swerved into the oncoming lane.

The vehicle then struck three cars and one motorbike before flipping over and spinning in the middle of Trung Kinh Street. The accident resulted in two injuries, with a ride-hailing motorbike driver suffering a broken leg and arm, requiring emergency hospitalization.

At the scene, the Lexus was found in the middle lane of Trung Kinh Street, with its airbags deployed and its front end severely damaged. The driver was trapped inside and assisted out by passersby. The other cars sustained dents to their front and rear, and debris was scattered across an area of approximately 300 square meters.
