Luxury car 'kingpin' Phan Cong Khanh in court

Phan Cong Khanh, also known as Khanh Super, and his accomplices are accused of abusing trust to sell a Brabus 800 and pawn two other luxury cars, misappropriating 32.6 billion VND.

On 17/9, Phan Cong Khanh (32), also known as Khanh Super, Huynh Xuan Van (39), and Mohamach Da Pha (30, residing in An Giang), were tried by the Ho Chi Minh City People's Court on charges of abusing trust to misappropriate assets.

Van is currently a fugitive and was tried in absentia.

Upon entering the courtroom, Khanh appeared cheerful as he met many acquaintances.

The court summoned three victims, but they were absent. Among 24 involved parties, eight attended the trial. Six lawyers represented the defendants.

According to the indictment announced by the People's Procuracy representative at court, Khanh, facing business losses and needing money to repay debts, conspired with Van and Pha. They used fraudulent schemes to misappropriate a McLaren car, valued at 7.1 billion VND, from Ms. Huong, and then pawned it.

Additionally, in 1/2022, Khanh sold a Brabus G800 car to a man for 24 billion VND. In 6/2023, Khanh called the car's owner, proposing to borrow it back for display at his showroom in central Saigon. Trusting Khanh, the man lent him the car and its documents. Khanh and Van then falsely told a new client, Mr. Phuong, that their company had purchased a Brabus G800, leading Mr. Phuong to believe them and agree to buy it for 24.5 billion VND. After Mr. Phuong transferred 24.5 billion VND, Khanh evaded contact and used the money for personal purposes.

Mohamach Da Pha borrowed a BMW car (valued at 870 million VND) from Mr. Su for his use, then arbitrarily pawned it for one billion VND, which he gave to Van. Meanwhile, Pha told Mr. Su that he was still using the car.

Beyond these three acts, Khanh and Van were also reported by many others for asset misappropriation. However, investigators have determined there are insufficient grounds at present, so these acts have been separated for later investigation and handling.
