Can Tho City Police announced on 17/9 that authorities arrested Trung, 27, in Laos. He was extradited to Vietnam and is currently detained for legal proceedings.

According to the case file, in 2024, Trung, a resident of O Mon ward, met the teenage girl online. He subsequently took her to various accommodations in Can Tho for sexual relations on multiple occasions.

After the girl's family discovered the situation and reported it to the police, Trung allegedly enticed her to leave home and travel with him through several provinces and cities.

In 2/2025, O Mon District Police, Can Tho City, initiated criminal proceedings. On 4/2, investigators charged Trung and issued a warrant for his temporary detention for sexual relations with a person aged 13 to under 16, under Article 145 of the Penal Code. However, Trung had already fled, prompting authorities to issue a special wanted notice on 26/2.

During the investigation, authorities determined that Trung had taken the teenage girl to Laos via an unofficial border crossing and was hiding in the capital, Vientiane. A task force, in coordination with the representative agency of the Vietnamese Ministry of Public Security and Lao Police, verified his whereabouts, planned his arrest, and ensured the girl's safety.

Police subsequently arrested Trung. Authorities brought him and the teenage girl back to Vietnam for investigation.
