According to the investigation, Thuong confessed to acquiring gun parts online, assembling them into complete firearms, and then selling them. He also admitted to using two military weapons himself.
The Security Investigation Agency initiated its inquiry four months ago after discovering Thuong, aged 21, from Long Ha commune, illegally possessed military weapons. He was subsequently prosecuted and detained.
Following Thuong's confession, the agency apprehended three additional individuals linked to the military weapon trafficking ring.
Since early 2025, the Security Investigation Agency has prosecuted 87 cases involving 93 defendants for offenses including illegal manufacturing, storage, transport, use, trade, or appropriation of military weapons. Authorities have seized hundreds of various firearms, high-lethality knives, and military ammunition during this period.
