On 9/9, Nguyen Van Sang, 43, was temporarily detained by An Giang Provincial Police for investigation into attempted murder.

According to initial investigation, Sang and Hong, 40, residents of Binh Hoa commune, divorced about one year ago. Recently, conflicts stemming from jealousy frequently arose between them.

On the morning of 7/9, Sang brought about one liter of gasoline to Hong's house, intending to resolve their disputes. As Hong was not home, he waited. A short while later, when his ex-wife returned, an argument erupted.

Sang doused Hong with gasoline and repeatedly attempted to ignite it. Despite interventions, Sang succeeded in setting her ablaze, causing her to suffer severe burns.

Hong's family rushed her to emergency care. Sang subsequently surrendered himself to Binh Hoa Commune Police.
