On 21/7, Van Cong Moi, his wife Tran Ngoc Lanh, Tran Quoc Toan, Pham Trong Phuc, Nguyen Thanh Long, and Nguyen Chi Tam were arrested by Can Tho City Police. The six individuals, aged 23-36 and all residing in An Giang, face temporary detention for robbery, an offense under Article 168 of the Penal Code.
Initial police investigations revealed Moi and the victim, both from An Giang, were friends. Recently, the victim repeatedly messaged Moi's wife, inviting her to a motel; she consistently refused. Upon learning of these messages, Moi, his wife, and several others devised a plan to stage a jealousy scene. Their goal was to threaten the man and force him to surrender his assets.
The group executed their plan on 9/7. They lured the victim to a motel in Vi Tan ward, Can Tho City. There, they burst in, claiming to have caught him 'cheating'. Moi's group then restrained the victim, threatening to disseminate his personal information and images on social media. Under duress, the victim handed over nearly 10 million VND before the perpetrators left.
Following a report, Can Tho City Police launched an investigation. They tracked down and arrested Moi, his wife, and their accomplices. All individuals have initially confessed to their involvement.
