Le Van Goi, 39, from Dai Ngai commune, was arrested on October 16 by Can Tho City Police. He is being investigated for murder under Article 123 of the Penal Code, following the strangulation death of his 45-year-old common-law wife.
Initial investigations revealed that Goi and the 45-year-old woman, from Vinh Thuan Dong commune, Can Tho City, had been living as common-law spouses since 2013 in her hometown. While working in Ho Chi Minh City, Goi monitored home cameras and noticed his partner frequently staying out overnight. This led him to suspect her of having a romantic relationship with another person, fueling his jealousy.
On October 10, Goi returned from Ho Chi Minh City to Can Tho and took his partner to a guesthouse in Vi Tan ward to discuss their issues. Their argument escalated, and in a fit of rage, Goi strangled the victim, causing her immediate death.
After committing the crime, Goi attempted suicide but failed. He then asked guesthouse staff to report the incident to the local police.
