According to the indictment, Cuong, his wife, and their 6-year-old child rented a room in Nhut Tao commune, where Cuong worked as a factory worker. On the evening of 28/9 last year, after finishing work, Cuong used crystal meth.
Upon returning to their rented room, Cuong became enraged when his wife seemed distant and criticized him. He ran to the opposite room, grabbed scissors, and stabbed her repeatedly in the shoulder and back. The woman fled in panic, but tripped and fell, allowing Cuong to continue his attack.
The victim then hid in the rented room and locked the door, but Cuong attempted to break it down. She pleaded, "Stop, please, think of our child's future." Hearing this, Cuong threw the scissors and took his wife to the emergency room. She sustained 34% bodily harm.
In court, Cuong's wife did not request compensation and asked for a reduced sentence for her husband.
The prosecutor stated that the victim's wounds in the chest and back were in vital areas and could have been fatal without timely emergency care. The defendant's actions constituted an attempted crime, marked by violence and recklessness, leading the prosecutor to recommend a sentence of 12-14 years in prison.
