On 1/5, Van Hien Commune Police, in coordination with the Criminal Police Department of Nghe An Provincial Police, summoned Hao, 22, residing in Thuan Trung commune (formerly Do Luong district), to investigate criminal offenses.

On 30/4, Hao reported to Van Hien Commune Police that two strangers had robbed him of property. This included 7,5 million VND he had just collected from customers for his express delivery company.

During the investigation, Hao appeared anxious and provided conflicting information that did not match the evidence at the scene.

Following an investigation, police determined the robbery report was false. Hao admitted that on 30/4, he took the 7,5 million VND collected from customers and gambled it all away online. Unable to repay the company, Hao fabricated a crime scene and false evidence before reporting the fabricated robbery to the police.
