Kien Luong Commune Police announced on 5/2 that they are temporarily detaining Nguyen Van Tuan Anh, 43, for investigation into attempted murder. According to authorities, the dispute between Tuan Anh and the woman, who lived together as husband and wife, began around 8 p.m. on 30/1 at their residence. The argument escalated the following morning. In a fit of anger, Tuan Anh reportedly declared, "If you want to die, we'll die together." He then took about 150 ml of gasoline from a motorbike, mixed it with water, and placed it into a bottle.
He later found the woman lying in a hammock in front of their house. Tuan Anh poured the gasoline on her and attempted to ignite it with a lighter, but it failed to catch fire. Their daughter quickly intervened, allowing the victim to escape unharmed.
Tuan Anh surrendered to the Kien Luong Commune Police station around 1:40 p.m. on the same day.
