Man wields sword, vandalizes property, posts videos on Facebook

Huynh Van Minh Nhut, 31, has been arrested after allegedly using a sword to vandalize a car and a guesthouse in Da Nang, filming the acts, and posting them on social media to challenge an individual he had a dispute with.

On 16/10, the Police Investigation Agency of Da Nang city police temporarily detained Huynh Van Minh Nhut, residing in Dien Ban Dong ward, to investigate his involvement in public disorder.

Nhut has a criminal record, including two previous convictions for intentional injury and three administrative violations for intentional injury and property destruction.

According to initial investigations, approximately one week prior, Nhut believed a Facebook account named "Van Quy Loc" had posted content insulting his relatives. After his demand for an apology went unanswered, the two individuals exchanged challenging messages and comments online.

On the evening of 12/10, Nhut rented a car and brought a sword, about 60 cm long, to Loc's residence in Hoi An ward to confront him. Unable to find Loc, Nhut kicked the iron door, used the sword to slash and stab the door, and shouted insults.

Nhut then used a brick to smash the rear windshield of a white car parked in front of Loc's laundry shop. He also asked a passerby to record the entire incident. Nhut subsequently uploaded two videos of the vandalism to his personal Facebook account in the early morning of 13/10, attracting tens of thousands of views and shares.

Leaving the first scene, Nhut proceeded to Loc's family guesthouse in Dien Ban ward, where he stood outside, wielding the sword and yelling. He then went to the second floor, used a fire extinguisher to smash the glass door of a room, before departing.

On the morning of 13/10, Nhut returned to the guesthouse to threaten Loc's relatives. While again carrying the sword and searching for Loc to assault him, Nhut was summoned by the police.

Investigators seized a sword, a damaged Da Nang-registered car, a motorbike, and other related evidence. The investigation is ongoing.
