Police launch 8-pronged raids on betting rings in Da Nang

Da Nang police mobilized 50 officers, forming eight teams, to simultaneously raid multiple football betting and illegal lottery operations, arresting seven individuals ahead of the 2026 World Cup.

On 8/6, Da Nang City Police's Criminal Police Department announced the temporary detention of seven individuals: Le Trung Hai, 40; Nguyen Quang Hieu, 35; Nguyen Dinh Dang Nguyen, 34; Nguyen Phuoc Nguyen, 41; Nguyen Thi Chau, 56; Vu Bao, 41; and Nguyen Thi No, 51. They face charges of organizing gambling and gambling.

Initial investigations revealed that Hai and Hieu, with their accomplices, operated a football betting and illegal lottery ring, drawing numerous participants from various communes and wards city-wide.

Police reconnaissance identified Zalo, Messenger, and phone messages as the primary communication channels for the group to receive, transfer illegal lottery slips, and coordinate bets.

On 3/6, the special project team mobilized 50 officers, forming eight operational units, to simultaneously execute search warrants and apprehend the suspects.

Evidence seized included 12 mobile phones, over 150 pages of documents detailing football betting and illegal lottery records, and 231.8 million Vietnamese dong in cash.

Investigators determined that since early 2026, the ring had facilitated transactions totaling approximately 20 billion Vietnamese dong, generating illicit profits in the billions of Vietnamese dong.

According to Da Nang City Police, these arrests are the result of a heightened campaign targeting gambling and organized betting offenses, launched ahead of the 2026 World Cup under the direction of the City Police Director.

The investigation is ongoing and being expanded.
