Upon arrival, Dao shot and killed the taxi driver, then hid the body in an acacia garden in Liem Hoa commune, Kim Phu. At around 10 PM, Dao returned to his in-laws' house and shot his father-in-law.

His mother-in-law fled to a nearby barbershop, but Dao pursued her, broke down the door, and fired shots. Dao then drove the taxi to his biological father's house in Dang Hoa village, Kim Dien, and barricaded himself inside the vehicle. He was arrested at 4 AM on 27/3.

As a result of the rampage, his mother-in-law died en route to the emergency room. His injured father-in-law is currently receiving emergency treatment at Hospital 108 in Hanoi.

Authorities later found the taxi driver's body in the acacia plantation.

The motive for the incident is under investigation.
