Hung Yen provincial police announced on 11/5 the temporary criminal detention of Bui Trung Manh, a 52-year-old resident of Thuan An village, Thu Vu commune. He is being investigated for allegedly causing injury to multiple individuals in an incident that occurred the previous day.
The attack took place around 5:20 p.m. on 10/5. Manh, reportedly harboring a prior dispute with his 64-year-old cousin and neighbor, Bui Trung Thieu, armed himself with a kitchen knife and went to Thieu's family home.
In the alleyway in front of the house, Manh allegedly attacked 33-year-old Bui Trung Thieu, his cousin's son, with the knife. When Bui Thi Thao, 26, Thieu's daughter, who was holding her 3-year-old son, ran out to intervene, Manh also assaulted her.
Thao attempted to flee to neighbor Hue's house with her son to seek help, but Manh pursued them. The suspect continued the assault, attacking the 3-year-old boy and slashing Hue's hand as she tried to shield the victims.
After the assault, Manh fled the scene. Police apprehended him at 9:00 p.m. the same day.
According to authorities, Bui Trung Thieu, Bui Thi Thao, and her son sustained multiple injuries and are currently receiving emergency treatment at Thai Binh Provincial General Hospital.
Authorities are continuing their investigation to clarify the full circumstances of the incident.
