Thief swallows 'golden egg' in front of police

The thief of an 8 cm diamond-encrusted gold egg-shaped jewelry piece swallowed the evidence as police arrived.

A 32-year-old suspect, whose identity remains undisclosed, is facing a painful ordeal after swallowing a gem-studded Faberge egg pendant to conceal evidence from police.

The incident occurred on 28/11 at a Partridge jewelry store in Auckland, where the suspect allegedly stole the valuable item. Police, who arrived to apprehend him, are now patiently awaiting the retrieval of the evidence, Telegraph reported on 3/12.

The suspect also faces charges for stealing an iPad from the same store on 12/11. The following day, he allegedly stole cat litter and flea medication valued at 100 NZD (1,5 million dong) from a private residence. He appeared in an Auckland court on 29/11, pleading not guilty to theft. His next court appearance is scheduled for next monday, after the pendant is recovered.

Police confirmed the ongoing situation: "At the time of his arrest, he received a medical examination, and a person was assigned to continuous monitoring. Currently, the pendant has not yet been confiscated".

The object of this unusual theft is a limited-edition Faberge egg-shaped pendant, measuring 3,3 inches (8,4 cm). Its design draws inspiration from the 1983 James Bond film, Octopussy, which featured actor Roger Moore as agent 007.

Only 50 such pendants exist worldwide. Each is crafted from 18 carat gold, adorned with green enamel, and set with 60 white diamonds and 15 blue sapphires.

According to the jewelry store's website, when opened, the egg reveals an 18 carat gold octopus inside, detailed with white diamond suckers and black diamond eyes.
