On the afternoon of 22/8, Hieu, 43, was arrested by Ho Chi Minh City Police. She is being investigated for "abusing democratic freedoms to infringe upon the interests of the State, and the legitimate rights and interests of organizations and individuals," as per Article 331 of the Penal Code.
Earlier, police found the TikTok account "QuyHoi" had posted numerous videos containing false information. These videos allegedly distorted state policies, misrepresented investigation, prosecution, and trial processes, and attacked or insulted individuals. Through verification, police identified Hieu as the account's creator and direct manager.
Hieu stated she filmed, edited, and posted the videos herself to attract likes, comments, and boost engagement.
According to the police, the content Hieu disseminated contained false information, which caused public confusion and affected the normal operations of state agencies or public officials.
After police explained the implications, Hieu admitted her wrongdoing and voluntarily removed the violating videos. The investigative agency is continuing to gather evidence and clarify the case.
