On 8/12/2024, Hue City Police announced they had charged Tri with violating road traffic regulations, under Clause 2, Article 260 of the 2015 Penal Code.

Around 8h on 14/11/2024, Tri was driving a truck on National Highway 1, heading North-South. Near the northern approach road of Phuoc Thuong tunnel in Phu Loc commune, he made a left turn into the oncoming lane to enter a gas station.

The accident occurred when the truck's right side collided with a motorcycle. Dang Xuan Vinh, 37, was driving the motorcycle, carrying Nguyen Thi Lam Ha, 45, in that lane. The impact killed Vinh and Ha instantly at the scene.

Police determined Tri caused the accident by making an unsafe turn, failing to obey road signs, and driving in the wrong lane.
