Vice principal indicted in unusually high math scores case at specialized high school

Tran Thi Thu Hang, vice principal of Nguyen Van Huyen High School, has been indicted for alleged misconduct regarding unusually high math scores at Tuyen Quang Specialized High School.

The Tuyen Quang Provincial Police's Security Investigation Agency recently indicted Hang and three other individuals for abusing positions and powers while performing official duties. Hang served as the exam site head at Tuyen Quang Specialized High School.

This information was announced at a press conference on the afternoon of 9/7 at the Tuyen Quang Provincial Party Committee's Propaganda and Mass Mobilization Department.

Regulations stipulate that an exam site head for the high school graduation exam must not be assigned to a school where their own students are taking the test. The exam site head is responsible for overseeing all activities at the designated location during the examination period.

Previously, police indicted and detained Nguyen Ha Duy, 28, a math teacher at Tuyen Quang Specialized High School, to investigate the charge of abusing positions and powers while performing official duties.

Duy is an alumnus of Tuyen Quang Specialized High School. After graduating from university in 2020, he returned to teach math there. During his tenure, Duy was assigned as the homeroom teacher for the specialized math class and was in charge of the school's national math Olympiad team.

The Ministry of Education and Training announced high school graduation exam scores on the morning of 1/7, prompting the investigation. Tuyen Quang Specialized High School drew attention when more than 290 of its 328 candidates, with candidate numbers ranging from 080163xx to 080166xx, scored 9 points or higher in math, with over 140 students achieving perfect scores.

On the morning of 3/7, the Ministry of Education and Training dispatched a delegation to Tuyen Quang to investigate suspicious local high school graduation exam math scores that required verification and clarification.

Deputy Prime Minister Le Tien Chau, at a meeting on the 2026 high school graduation exam, urged Tuyen Quang province to take responsibility for compromising the exam's integrity. He stated that this incident severely impacted the graduation exam results and the "image and reputation of the education sector".
