On 10/4, Trien, residing in Go Cong Dong commune, was sentenced to 10 years in prison for murder by the Dong Thap Provincial People's Court.
Earlier, the victim's children had submitted a petition for leniency for their mother.
According to the judicial panel, while the victim bore some responsibility in the case, Trien's actions demonstrated a violent and aggressive nature, showing disregard for the law, necessitating a lengthy period of social isolation.

Trien and Mr. Van, 54, were farmers and had three children together. Recently, Mr. Van's frequent drunkenness and debts led to constant conflicts and arguments between the couple.
On the evening of 30/4/2025, Mr. Van again became drunk, returned home, cursed at his wife, and then choked her. After Trien screamed and struggled, he released her and went to sleep in his own room.
About five hours later, recalling the incident, Trien became enraged and decided to kill her husband. She went to the back of the house, retrieved an iron pipe, and, taking advantage of her husband's deep sleep, repeatedly struck him on the head.
Seeing her husband motionless, Trien took a bath, changed her clothes, and then consumed various Western medicines in an attempt to commit suicide.
Four hours later, Mr. Van's sister arrived at the house, discovered her brother was dead, and found Trien unconscious. She called for help, and Trien was rushed to the emergency room. Two days later, she was discharged from the hospital.
In court, Trien admitted to the act, stating that her actions were a spontaneous outburst of anger due to her husband's abuse, and requested a reduced sentence.
