Initial investigations indicate the woman, originally from An Giang, rented a room in Duc Hoa Commune and worked as a lottery ticket vendor. Yesterday afternoon, she had given her son 140 lottery tickets, including those for Ben Tre, Vung Tau, and Bac Lieu, to sell.
As the boy cycled along a road in neighborhood 2, Duc Hoa Commune, a masked woman on a motorbike stopped him, feigning interest in buying tickets. She took the stack of tickets, ostensibly to choose some, and told the boy, "I have an electric bicycle at my house, I'll give it to you if you follow me."
Believing her, the boy prepared to follow. However, the woman suddenly accelerated her motorbike and fled with the tickets, leaving the boy crying. Roadside cameras captured the boy's subsequent attempt to chase her on his bicycle, which ended in a fall, causing scrapes to his limbs, and forcing him to abandon the pursuit.
The boy's mother subsequently reported the incident to the communal police.
