On August 6, Hoan Lao Commune Police announced the successful return of 5 billion VND to Tran Minh Quan of Hanoi, with the cooperation of Cuong.
Two days prior, Cuong's bank account unexpectedly received 5 billion VND from an unknown account across 12 transactions. The sender subsequently made additional transfers, leaving a phone number in the transaction notes for contact.
The next day, Cuong reported the incident to Hoan Lao Commune Police. Using the information he provided, the police contacted the mistaken sender, instructing them to prepare a transaction statement and their citizen identification card for verification.
On the same day, Quan traveled from Hanoi to Hoan Lao Commune to retrieve the 5 billion VND.
Quan explained that he works for a gold, silver, and gemstone trading company and needed to transfer money to a colleague also named Hoang Quoc Cuong. Due to a previous transaction with someone sharing the same full name in his banking app's contact list, he mistakenly selected the wrong recipient.
