On 5/8, Tang Nhon Phu ward police in Ho Chi Minh City initiated proceedings to fine a 20-year-old woman from Vinh Long. She faces penalties for reporting false information to competent agencies and organizations, in accordance with Decree 282/2025.
Yesterday, the woman reported to the police station, claiming a young man on a motorbike snatched her iPhone 14 Pro before fleeing. However, a police investigation, which included reviewing camera footage and verifying the scene, found no evidence of a robbery at the location she reported.
Confronted with the findings, the woman admitted to fabricating the robbery story. Her motive was to ask her parents for money to buy a new laptop. She confessed to having previously sold the iPhone at a store on Le Van Viet street in Tang Nhon Phu ward, receiving over 10 million VND for personal expenses.
