260 million VND aids school reconstruction in flood-hit region

Ha Yen school begins renovating its fence system and purchasing equipment damaged after the storm, thanks to 260 million VND from Hy Vong Fund and its partners.

On 3/2, Hy Vong Fund - VnExpress newspaper, along with Terumo Vietnam Medical Equipment Company Limited and HTAUTO Vietnam Company Limited, provided funds for infrastructure reconstruction for Ha Yen school, part of Le Duan Primary and Secondary School, Tuy An Dong commune.

In late 2025, Typhoon Kalmaegi (No. 13), accompanied by prolonged heavy rain and floods, caused severe damage in Dak Lak. The disaster also left many schools with damaged roofs, deep flooding, and completely destroyed equipment, disrupting the education of thousands of students.

At Ha Yen school, the storm winds completely destroyed the restroom area, toppled the parking shed's fence, and damaged many facilities, creating unsafe conditions and disrupting teaching activities. The estimated cost for repairs is 260 million VND.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Bich Tra, the school's vice principal, remains haunted by the sight of thick, soft mud covering the schoolyard and classrooms as the floodwaters receded. Desks, chairs, and textbooks were washed away, and many pieces of equipment were stuck in treetops, leaving teachers and students feeling helpless.

"We didn't know how to find the resources to fix everything", Ms. Tra said.

After a survey, the "Cung dong bao vuot lu" (Helping Compatriots Overcome Floods) program, implemented by Hy Vong Fund - VnExpress newspaper, helped the school rebuild damaged structures and supplement learning materials so students could stabilize their studies quickly. Of the total, 200 million VND came from contributions by Terumo Vietnam Medical Equipment Company Limited, and 60 million VND from customers, partners, employees of HTAUTO Vietnam Company Limited, and VnExpress readers.

Leaders of Tuy An Dong commune acknowledged this as a timely resource that helped the locality address difficulties after the historic flood.

Witnessing the dedication of teachers and students in the flood-affected region to stay at school, Mr. Dang Vinh Nhan, Commercial Director of Terumo Vietnam, stated: "We believe every classroom rebuilt will be a place to nurture the dreams of these children."

In November 2025, Typhoon No. 13 caused nearly 5,500 billion VND in damage in Dak Lak, affecting hundreds of educational facilities. The "Cung dong bao vuot lu" program, relaunched by Hy Vong Fund, has so far supported 50 schools and provided gifts to patients in the Central region, with a total funding of 18 billion VND.
