Many seniors are choosing to spend Tet, the Lunar New Year, at Phuong Dong Asahi nursing home, finding comfort, care, and a vibrant community atmosphere. Nguyen Thi Duoc, 79, joined other residents for spring outings and photos in the beautifully decorated grounds. Under early-blooming peach trees, they chatted, shared stories of city excursions, and posed for pictures in their ao dai.

The nursing home buzzes with festive cheer during this time. The grounds are adorned with peach blossoms and kumquat trees, featuring familiar decorations that evoke traditional Tet memories. Residents gather to make banh chung (traditional sticky rice cakes), each contributing: washing dong leaves, rinsing rice, or folding the cakes, all while reminiscing about old times.
Nguyen Thi Duoc is one of many seniors residing at Phuong Dong Asahi nursing home. After more than a month of day care here, she reports stable health and improved spirits, enjoying daily conversations and activities with others. "I came to the nursing home so my children and grandchildren could have peace of mind, and I would have a place to chat, read, and walk with friends," Duoc explained her decision to move to the nursing home at nearly 80 years old. Seeing her return home regularly, looking happier, her children feel relieved and reassured.
Hoang Hai, 93, is a new resident. Early this year, after thorough research and a direct visit, his family chose Phuong Dong Asahi for him to join his peers. According to his relatives, the care and living conditions provide reassurance, especially with their busy schedules making daily supervision difficult. After some time at the nursing home, his health has stabilized, and his mobility and communication are more agile than before.
This year, Hoang Hai proactively suggested staying at the nursing home for a residential stay instead of returning home for Tet. His children and grandchildren fully supported this. "My whole life I celebrated Tet with my family. Now my children and grandchildren also need their own lives," Hai said, carefully folding each dong leaf. He believes that choosing to stay here for Tet does not mean being distant from his family. "I am old now and need to rest. My children and grandchildren work hard all year; Tet is for them to travel and relax," he shared.

Among the Tet activities, Xuan Tinh, 94, enjoys calligraphy to practice concentration. A former university lecturer, he continues his habits of learning and writing poetry. He has a personal poetry collection titled "Tam tinh" (Confessions). For him, writing calligraphy, composing poetry, or celebrating Tet are all ways to keep his spiritual life active.

Some families choose the nursing home for seniors during Tet to ensure consistent care when their children and grandchildren are busy. At Phuong Dong Asahi, the living environment integrates medical care, nutrition, and group activities, helping seniors maintain a routine while still experiencing the familiar Tet atmosphere.
Nguyen Cong Minh, Director of Phuong Dong Asahi Nursing Home, stated that the Tet program originates from understanding seniors' fear of emptiness and loneliness during the holiday season. The activities respect individual routines while fostering a cohesive environment, nurturing mental clarity, a sense of shared experience, and promoting a joyful, meaningful spiritual life.
A representative of the facility added that decorating common areas and organizing a series of spring celebration programs helps seniors maintain their familiar routines and strengthens bonds during Tet. Activities are designed so that seniors can celebrate Tet in an environment with constant care and support.
Phuong Dong Asahi began operations in 11/2024, offering a combined nursing home and resort model in Hanoi. It provides accommodation rooms along with amenities such as Onsen baths, saunas, restaurants, spas, and massage services. According to a representative of the operating unit, the model is built with a senior-centric approach, emphasizing safety, health care, and mental well-being activities to meet the long-term rest and care needs of seniors.
