In early July, Aubrey Birrell, 26, traveled with about 30 relatives from Utah to a vacation rental in Oceanside, San Diego. As they prepared for dinner, her father paused before a large painting of a beach scene hanging on the wall.

He joked that one of the figures in the painting resembled him. Upon closer inspection, Aubrey realized the man in the photo was her father, alongside her younger sister Libby and younger brother Brady in their childhood swimsuits. "That's dad. This is Libby and Brady," Aubrey exclaimed.

The Birrell family immediately called other relatives to view the discovery and video-called friends. They recalled the photo was taken during a trip to San Diego 10 years ago, when Brady participated in a youth soccer tournament. However, no one remembered seeing a photographer or drone at that time.

"Sleeping there the first night, we felt a bit eerie," Aubrey stated. "I wondered if the owner knew we were coming."

After contacting the owner, the family learned that all decorative artwork was created by a local photographer. This photographer typically takes aerial beach photos and prints them in large formats to sell to vacation properties.

The Birrell family was unknowingly captured in the photo during their trip over 10 years ago. The photo was then used as decorative art, with the photographer unaware of the subjects' identities.

Following the explanation, the owner stated that this painting was also displayed in several other rental homes and offered the family a print as a souvenir.

"It would be great to have a print from the photographer for the whole family to keep," Aubrey said.
