16-seat passenger bus plunges into ditch, one dead

A 16-seat passenger bus carrying 6 people traveling over To Na Pass on national highway 25 suddenly plunged into a ditch, killing one passenger and seriously injuring two others, on the morning of 8/5.

At approximately 5:40 h, Tran Van Hau, 54, was driving a Hung Phuong bus on national highway 25 from Gia Lai towards Kon Tum. Upon reaching To Na Pass, located in Phum hamlet, Uar commune, the vehicle unexpectedly veered off the road to the left.

The accident resulted in the immediate death of Vo Thi Huong, 75, a resident of Phu Tuc commune. Two other individuals sustained serious injuries and were transported to Phu Tuc Hospital for emergency treatment.

At the scene, the bus sustained heavy damage, its windshield was shattered, and one of its wheels fell into a roadside drainage ditch.

According to authorities, the initial investigation determined the cause was the driver losing control of the vehicle's speed while navigating a curve on the pass.

To Na Pass, approximately 2 km long on national highway 25, is an important transport route connecting the South Central Coast region with the Central Highlands. Despite upgrades initiated in 2012 to mitigate accident risks, the area still poses risks, especially during the rainy season due to frequent landslides.
