On 30/8 at 6h, residents across 34 provinces and cities will embark on a simultaneous walk. This event, organized by Nhan Dan Newspaper in collaboration with the Ministry of Public Security, aims to set a new Guinness world record for a simultaneous environmental walking activity.
The campaign, themed “10 billion green steps – For a sustainable Vietnam”, commemorates the 81st anniversary of the August Revolution, the Public Security Force’s Traditional Day (19/8), and National Day (2/9).
This synchronized walking initiative is expected to boost physical fitness movements, foster strong connections between central and local authorities, and highlight Vietnam's exceptional community engagement on the global stage.

Speaking at a press conference on the afternoon of 25/8, Le Quoc Minh, Member of the Party Central Committee, Editor-in-Chief of Nhan Dan Newspaper, and Deputy Head of the Central Propaganda Department, stated that Guinness representatives would travel to Vietnam to verify the record. "Guinness regulations are very clear and specific; they require data and third-party verification for recognition," Minh explained.
Beyond the world record attempt, the event also aims to promote a green lifestyle, raise awareness about emission reduction targets for net zero, and foster the movement "All people exercise according to the example of great Uncle Ho".
The online portal, cungvietnamtienbuoc.nhandan.vn, is now open for public registration and step accumulation. To date, it has recorded over 104,000 registered participants, with Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City each contributing over 12,000 individuals.
Last year’s “Together Vietnam Advances” walking program successfully united residents across 34 provinces, cities, and 3,321 communes and wards nationwide. With over 1.2 million participants, the program recorded more than 6 billion steps, fostering a strong spirit of physical training, community solidarity, and national pride.
