6-vehicle pile-up causes Ring Road 3 congestion

A 6-vehicle chain collision on Ring Road 3 severely damaged a 4-seater car and caused extensive traffic congestion towards Thang Long bridge on the afternoon of 5/5.

Around 10h, a white 4-seater car with old Vinh Phuc provincial license plates was traveling on Ring Road 3 towards Thang Long bridge. Near the Ciputra urban area, it collided with a Hanoi-registered truck.

The impact crumpled the 4-seater car, pinning it against the front of the truck. The male driver, though not injured, was trapped in the cabin and was helped out by residents.

The accident then triggered a chain reaction as multiple vehicles traveling in the same direction, mostly trucks, collided.

At the scene, two box trucks were in front of the initial collision. Behind them, a truck and a car sustained front-end damage from hitting the rear of the vehicles ahead.

In the opposite direction, near this area, another collision occurred between a box truck and a postal vehicle.

These accidents caused traffic congestion towards Thang Long bridge. Traffic police cordoned off the area to manage the scene and investigate the cause.

The elevated Ring Road 3 is a vital traffic artery in Hanoi, connecting to three expressways and three national highways. It features 10 interchanges and integrated on/off ramps between its elevated and ground-level sections. For many years, this route has been frequently overloaded, especially at major connection points.
