The accident caused a 5-ton truck to turn sideways, its cargo container crushing the front of a tractor-trailer. The 7-seater car was sandwiched between two vehicles, sustaining heavy damage. The driver suffered minor scratches and managed to open the door to escape.
The damaged vehicles blocked the lane, causing prolonged congestion on the bridge. This vital route connects the southern area with Cat Lai port, forcing thousands of trucks and containers to stop and impacting delivery schedules.

Phu My Bridge, part of Ring Road 2, connects Ho Chi Minh City's eastern and southern areas, handling a high volume of trucks and containers. The steep gradients at both ends of the bridge frequently lead to collisions as vehicles easily accelerate by inertia. Many incidents stem from drivers failing to maintain safe distances or exceeding speed limits.
