Container truck and car plunge into ravine after multi-vehicle accident on Bao Loc Pass

A container truck carrying potatoes unexpectedly swerved into the oncoming lane while descending Bao Loc Pass, causing a multi-vehicle collision with three other vehicles before plunging into a ravine with a 5-seater car.

A container truck carrying tens of tons of potatoes traveled on National Highway 20 from Da Lat to Ho Chi Minh City on the evening of 20/6. While descending Bao Loc Pass at a bend in Da Huoai 2 commune, the truck unexpectedly swerved into the oncoming lane, colliding with two cars and one truck.

After the collision, the container truck and one 5-seater car plunged into the ravine on the right side of the road. The container truck fell about 30 meters, stopped by large trees, while the car lay 15 meters from the edge of the ravine. The remaining vehicles sustained damage, and several meters of guardrail along National Highway 20 were knocked down.

According to authorities, a total of 10 people were in the four vehicles involved in the accident. All were safe.

In the early hours of 21/6, rescue forces managed to winch the 5-seater car out of the ravine. However, the container truck, due to its heavy load and complex position, could not yet be recovered. Recovery efforts will continue when conditions ensure safety.

As of this morning, the container truck had not yet been winched from the scene. *Photo: Hoai Thanh*

The cause of the accident is under investigation.

Bao Loc Pass, located on National Highway 20, connects Da Huoai district and the former Bao Loc City. The pass is about 10 kilometers long, featuring many winding, dangerous bends where accidents frequently occur. This route is important, linking the Southeast region with Lam Dong.
