The two animals were lying on their sides, legs facing upwards. Their bodies were intact but had decomposed. Initial forensic examination recorded no signs of external impact or traps.
According to local residents, the area experienced heavy rain with thunderstorms and lightning on the evening of the discovery. Authorities are clarifying whether the weather conditions are related to the deaths of the two gaurs.
Gaurs are classified as endangered, rare, and precious forest animals in Group IB, strictly prohibited from commercial exploitation. A 2008 survey recorded about 300 gaurs in Cat Tien National Park and the Dong Nai Nature and Cultural Reserve.
