Phase two of Long Thanh International Airport, as outlined in the investment policy, will feature a third runway, a second passenger terminal designed for 25 million passengers annually, and complementary infrastructure.
In 12/2025, the Government submitted a proposal to the National Assembly Standing Committee to amend Resolution No. 94/2015, which governs the project's investment policy. Accelerating this new phase, particularly the third runway, is expected to leverage existing labor, equipment, and materials from phase one construction. This approach aims to reduce costs, shorten completion times, and minimize environmental impact.

Originally, phase two of the Long Thanh Airport project was slated for research and investment between 2028 and 2032. However, with anticipated high GDP growth from 2026 and air passenger volumes increasing faster than projected, the demand for infrastructure expansion is now expected to emerge earlier.
The Ministry of Construction has instructed Airports Corporation of Vietnam (ACV) to secure adequate capital for phase two construction. This includes ensuring timely progress, high quality, operational efficiency, and the protection of state capital within the enterprise. ACV is also required to coordinate closely with the Vietnam Air Traffic Management Corporation during the investment preparation phase.
Long Thanh Airport stands as a national key project, spanning approximately 5,000 hectares with a total investment of nearly 337,000 billion VND. Last month, several phase one components were inaugurated, marking the arrival of the first flights. The airport is anticipated to begin commercial operations next June.
