Hanoi's southern arterial road, spanning 41,5 km, began construction in 2008 with an investment exceeding 6,000 billion VND. After nearly 18 years, the project has now completed land clearance.
The road features a width of 40 m and six lanes. In 2018, during the first phase of the project, with a total investment of over 3,700 billion VND, contractors constructed 20 km from the former Ha Dong district to the end of the former Thanh Oai district.
By early 2026, an additional 7 km of the remaining 22 km in phase two is set to open. This new section primarily runs through Phuong Duc commune, with over 90% of the work already completed.

Some sections are currently open for temporary traffic, and the 7 km stretch is expected to open before January 20.

Along the remaining section connecting to national route 1A, contractors have removed the surcharge layer, compacted the soil, and prepared the roadbed.
Once fully completed, the road will connect to national route 1A, integrate with Ring Road 4, and link central Hanoi with its southern communes and Ninh Binh province. Additionally, the route will foster socio-economic development, creating opportunities for real estate and regional transportation, while alleviating congestion on older national routes.
